I looked him in the eyes and said my name while shaking his hand. Then, I turned to head towards the counter for my routine pre-plasma donation check up. I was handed a purple card directing me to the section I would be spending the next forty minutes of my evening. As I walked away, I noticed my new friend at the counter. When I passed him I said, “My afternoon espresso didn’t block me tonight,” referring to our earlier conversation. He laughed and I headed to my section and got situated for my donation. I noticed when he entered the lounge that he was directed to the area adjacent to me. Knowing I would be done well before him, I practiced the encounter that I was going to initiate upon leaving.
After the phlebotomist wrapped a snug bandage around my left arm, I dug a business card out of my wallet with my right hand. I walked over to Cutie and waited for him to take out his ear buds. Feeling a little self-conscious (since it’s slightly awkward to hand someone your number while they have a needle pumping plasma out of their arm) I approached him and handed him my business card.
I said, “It was nice meeting you tonight.” Then I winked and walked away, making sure my hips swayed back and forth just a little, just in case he was watching me walk away. I haven’t heard from him yet, but the weekend hasn’t arrived and I know to anticipate the positive. If nothing happens, at least I may have another visitor added to my website count.
